CPOE is an acronym for Computerized Physician Order Entry. Physicians will place their orders electronically in the Soarian system (ValleyLink), rather than on paper.
2. Why is Cape Fear Valley Health System implementing CPOE?CPOE is the next step in our electronic health record journey. CPOE provides direct patient safety benefits and improves communication and efficiency in regards to patient care.
3. What are the benefits of CPOE?CPOE is set to Go Live on December 20, 2011, with the initial group of providers being Valley Medical Associates, or VMA, our Hospitalist Group. They will begin by entering their admission orders, the “Hospitalization Orders.”
5. Will CPOE be mandatory for all providers?Electronic order entry will be required by each specialty group as CPOE is rolled out to that group.
6. What has been done to insure that CPOE is easy and efficient to use?Throughout the design and build process, the CPOE build team focused on streamlining the system with the minimal number of clicks possible.
There are “pick lists” of commonly ordered items (Meds, Labs, and Radiology orders) to assist the physicians, and we have added the functionality of “Personal Favorites,” for a provider to save common orders to a list unique to him or herself.
7. What kind of training and support is being provided?Training classes will be offered for physicians before each group is Goes Live with CPOE As each group of physicians Goes Live, there will be dedicated support on the unit.
