Cardiology Fellowship Program

Cardiology Fellowship Home

The Cape Fear Valley Cardiology Fellowship Program is dedicated to providing quality and personalized cardiac care to the patients of Cumberland County and surrounding communities. Our community is home to a medically underserved patient population and our program seeks to improve access to care for our patients. In partnership with our sponsoring institution, we are committed to educating and training diverse and culturally competent physicians to practice in rural and underserved communities. Our program is dedicated to support and enrich the cardiac training of all primary care (internal medicine and family medicine) residents in the Cape Fear Valley Health System and the greater Cumberland County community. The cardiovascular fellowship program in partnership with our sponsoring institution, Campbell University, will engage in practices that focus on mission driven, ongoing systemic recruitment and retention of a diverse and inclusive workforce of residents, fellows, faculty members and other relevant members of the academic community. Cape Fear Valley Medical Center has been named a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital for 2018 by IBM Watson, formerly Truven Health Analytics.

Our program will include three trainees per year for three years of training during which twenty-four months are dedicated to basic clinical training. Our program will provide an academically and clinically rigorous training program to give our trainee outstanding skills in general cardiology as well as advanced training in either a clinical cardiology subspecialty or cardiovascular research. The aim of our program is to provide our trainee with the basic and clinical knowledge, procedural skills, clinical judgement, professionalism and interpersonal skills required as a specialist in cardiovascular diseases. Our training will prepare our fellows to function not only as highly competent cardiologists, but also as either subspecialists in a clinical area or investigators in the field of cardiovascular research.

With a priority placed on resident and fellow wellness, our location is in the heart of North Carolina which provides proximity to both the beaches and mountains with a number of hobbies, interests, and activities available for us to participate in as a group and our fellows to enjoy in their ample downtime. The faculty at Cape Fear is comprised of diverse group of physicians with a wealth of academic, military, and community experience. The dedicated group of educators has a singular focus - preparing our fellows to face the ever-changing practice of Cardiology and assisting them to become the best they can be for themselves and the patients they serve. The methodology is fostered by a team-based, collegial approach to fellow training, as well as didactic sessions to deepen the fellow's core knowledge.
