Our surgeons experience, safety and quality record have earned us several accreditations within the bariatric world, including recognition by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
There are many factors and steps that vary based on multiple factors. Different insurance carriers have different mandatory requirements prior to surgical intervention. Patients must also allow for time between referrals and follow up appointments with specialists for the surgeons to receive and review their results. This can take 1-2 weeks following each subsequent specialist appointments.
There are several steps that must be completed. First, log in and complete our virtual video seminar. Please review our comprehensive checklist of steps that you will need to complete found here.
Always ask for and write down the name and direct extension number of the person you speak to at your insurance company. The next most important question pertains to your Bariatric Benefit, qualifications, and your financial responsibility. Ask if they pay for weight loss surgery. You may also ask for your plan benefits to determine your financial responsibility.
Medical records are required for a minimum of 2 years. Federal programs such as Medicare and Tricare require 5 years. This record can be from your doctor, a weight loss center, your job, or the hospital.
You will need to provide us with a letter of support for Bariatric Surgery from your primary care provider. Many providers have a standard form letter that can be accepted for this purpose. If needed, an example can be provided.
You will also need to obtain any medical records such as any cardiology (heart) records, any pulmonary (lung) records and any sleep studies. We must have this information to review by the time of your first in person visit.
After viewing our online educational seminar to completion, you will be contacted to schedule your first appointment. It may take 2-4 weeks if you prefer a specific surgeon. Otherwise, you can ask to be scheduled in the first available time slot for the first available surgeon.
