Nursing staff at CFVRC consist of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants. Registered Nurses are responsible for directing the patient’s plan of care and collaborating with the therapists to facilitate achievement of patient goals. Rehabilitation nurse coverage is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Nursing Assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses work under the direction of the Registered Nurse. They assist in patient care and management of the physical environment.
The goal of rehabilitation nursing is to assist individuals with disability and /or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation staff nurse assists clients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for clients’ and their families’ development. Rehabilitation Nurses provide 24 hour acute nursing care, managing medical issues and monitoring functional status.
Nurses assist patients to apply skills taught in their rehabilitation therapy classes. Nurses also provide ongoing patient/caregiver education on their condition, and how to cope and prevent complications. Nurses are instrumental members of the rehabilitation team and promote continuum of care throughout their rehabilitation stay.
Registered Nurses are specialty trained in the field of rehabilitation nursing and possess specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for people with a disability and chronic illness. Management encourages and is supportive of Registered Nurses who wish to be certified in the field of rehabilitation as Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRN).
