Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

When treating tumors, precision is key. The clearer your picture of the affected area, the more exact your placement of radiation-and the less damage done to healthy surrounding tissue. This is the principle behind Image-Guided Radiation Therapy, found in the Cancer Center’s new linear accelerator at Health Pavilion North.

Using high-resolution three-dimensional pictures (courtesy of an automated On-Board Imagerâ„¢ system), clinicians track the tumor site in real time, during the treatment session. Consequently, IGRT reduces margins of error caused by normal tumor movement due to breathing, digestion and other normal body functions.

As a patient, you’re assured better results and a less invasive procedure.
