The Cancer Registry collects and analyzes data on all cancers diagnosed and/or treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System. This data is reported annually to the North Carolina Central Cancer Registry and the National Cancer Data Base.
Cancer is a reportable disease in North Carolina. Physicians are required to report all cancer cases diagnosed in their offices to the North Carolina Central Cancer Registry (statute G.S. 130A-209). As a service to your office, we collect and report cancer cases that are diagnosed or treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System.
As a requirement for accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, the Cancer Registry is required to follow cancer patients for their lifetime. In order to maintain active follow-up, we must contact your office yearly to inquire if you have seen the patient. We will collect information on the patient’s disease status, as well as any new treatment that the patient has had. If the patient has not maintained contact with your office, we will contact him or her directly. This also serves as a reminder for your office to contact the patient for follow-up if they have not been seen recently.
Please be assured that the Cancer Registry maintains the strictest rules of confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
